The Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC) announced yesterday (Nov. 3) that its "Energy Storage Battery Testing Laboratory" in Kaohsiung has officially been recognized as an "Acknowledged Laboratory" by DNV, an internationally renowned independent third-party verification body. This marks an important milestone for Taiwan's energy storage supply chain in advancing internationally.

Energy storage systems are key to the stable grid integration of renewable energy, and battery safety and performance are paramount. DNV, as an authoritative institution in the global energy transition field, is known for its rigorous certification standards. MIRDC's lab achieving DNV's accreditation standard so quickly signifies that Taiwan's technical capabilities in energy storage battery testing, verification, and safety assessment have successfully aligned with the highest international standards.

The approval of this accreditation means that domestic energy storage system and battery manufacturers (such as Delta Electronics, Formosa Smart Energy, Amita Technologies, etc.) will now be able to obtain internationally credible testing reports directly within Taiwan. This will significantly shorten product development and verification timelines, accelerating their ability to seize the vast business opportunities in the global energy storage market.

MIRDC stated that it will continue to strengthen the lab's core testing capabilities in the future, assisting Taiwanese businesses in securing a firm position in the global net-zero supply chain and jointly contributing to Taiwan's energy transition goals.
