Minister of Environment Peng Qiming signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Chiayi University President Lin Han-chien to establish the "Biomass Zero Waste Recycling R&D Demonstration Center." In addition to assisting Chiayi University's animal testing site in resource processing, it will also benefit nearby farmers and communities, promote agricultural resource recycling and environmental sustainability in the Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan regions, and add another important milestone to Taiwan's move towards net-zero agriculture. He also attended the "True Color of Rivers - Call to Action for the Water Environment Guardian Alliance" summer camp, calling on young people to join the ranks of protecting rivers.
Peng Qiming said that in the past, pig manure was discharged into rivers, causing pollution. If corn and food waste are combined with pig manure, more biogas can be produced. Biomass energy has great potential in the future and may replace natural gas. Especially since Jiaxian is a large agricultural and industrial county, agricultural resources should be collected and converted into energy needed for industry.
Peng Qiming also said that after this storm, NT$300 million will be invested to assist Chiayi County in solving the problem. He hopes to establish a zero-waste biomass treatment system in Taiwan through division of labor, cooperation, and profit sharing. A comprehensive reform will be carried out from demonstration sites to livestock farms, creating one center and two bases, with an estimated 120 treatment facilities.
Lin Hanqian said that the world is facing the challenge of climate change, and all countries are seeking more friendly agricultural models. Centralized treatment of livestock manure and urine and high-value utilization of biomass have become key strategies for net-zero agriculture. Jiada will leverage its regional advantages, combine teachers, students and industry, cultivate future green-collar talents, and realize the vision of "zero waste cycle of biomass."
The Ministry of Environment commissioned the Chang Jung Christian University River Conservation Center to hold a summer camp at Barclay Park in Tainan City.
